RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position available in Hudson, Watertown, Chelsea and Billerica, MA.
$16-$20/hr with benefits! Monda-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. No Weekends!
The Therapeutic Assistant will utilize his/her skills under the clinical supervision of the Physical Therapist and the Occupational Therapist to provide a comprehensive range of therapeutic services to individuals. The Therapeutic Assistant will be accountable to the Day Habilitation Program Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist OTR and RPT in performing the initial and ongoing therapeutic evaluations of individuals as recommended by the Program Manager, the ISP and the OTR and RPT.
2. Implement therapeutic treatment plans under the supervision of the OTR and RPT including, but not limited to: range of motion exercises, muscle strengthening exercises, balance, positioning, mobility training, cardiovascular fitness training, sensory integration, meal time assistance and group process.
3. Assist all program staff in the integration of therapeutic objectives and adaptive methods into functional activities throughout the individuals' daily routines.
4. Monitor and maintain the condition of equipment including, but not limited to: wheelchairs, walkers, orthotic devices, footwear, positioning equipment and dining equipment.
5. Liaison with medical equipment vendors under the direction of the OTR and RPT.
6. Maintain current treatment records.
7. Participate in clinical and other team meetings as relevant and required.
8. Provide assistance, training and information to staff on safe lifting practices and other relevant therapeutic areas.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
1. Maintain the comfort of individuals by assisting with toileting and hygiene regimens.
2. Assist individuals with dining and self-care activities.
3. Communicate clinical status and therapeutic progress to residential staff and families.
REQUIREMENTS:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current license as COTA or PT assistant. Associates degree from a school accredited by the APTA or AOTA. In lieu of COTA or PTA training, the position can be filled by an individual with a BA/BS in exercise physiology. Strength and dexterity needed to lift, transfer and maneuver individuals. Possess good writing skills to effectively communicate individuals' needs and objectives. Two years experience with individuals who have physical and/or developmental disabilities. Driver's license and vehicle are required. CPR and First Aid are a condition of employment.
